Volunteers remain direct link to Youth Development among young women in Kansas

Ninety-three volunteers across 80 counties were honored by Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland at the 2013 Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast and Annual Meeting occurring April 6.

Without a paycheck and without any fanfare, Girl Scout volunteers devote themselves to girl leadership. They put in long hours, stay patient as girls lead their own activities, and bring fun and spirit to everything girls do. Girl Scout volunteers are making a difference in the world, one girl at a time.

Kathie Crispin of Lincoln is pictured receiving the Appreciation Pin at the 2013 Annual Meeting and Volunteer Appreciation Ceremony.  The Appreciation Pin is presented each spring to Girl Scout volunteers who help the Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland make a significant impact in at least one geographic area while the Honor Pin recognizes volunteers for their excellent service towards council goals in two or more geographic areas.

Brenda Geist of Salina, pictured with her troop during the annual Cookie Sale, received the Volunteer of Excellence. The Volunteer of Excellence Award is presented each spring to Girl Scout volunteers who work directly with girls and display excellent service in delivering the Girl Scout mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.

Terri Mattison of Salina also received the Volunteer Appreciation Award. She is shown accepting the honor at the Volunteer Appreciation AwardCeremony in Salina from staff representative, Kandi LaMar, on April 6, 2013.

Behind every Girl Scout, there is an amazing team of volunteers. What happens behind the scenes is so often overlooked but because of those who make the Girl Scout experience a priority for the next generation, all of us can look forward to Girl Scouting for a very long time.
