WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Tuesday, April 23, 2013, U.S. Senators Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) will hold a press conference at 10:15 a.m. on the handling of Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) disproportionate sequestration cuts. They will address the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) short-sighted decisions to close 149 FAA Contract Control Towers and furlough air traffic controllers.
The Protect Our Skies Act, which was introduced by Sens. Moran and Blumenthal earlier this month and is now co-sponsored by a bipartisan group of 33 Senators, would prohibit the Department of Transportation (DOT) from closing any air traffic control towers – including those that are operated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
